National Day of Giving Will Benefit Local Organizations

porter-county-community-foundationOn May 6, 2014, the Porter County Community Foundation will join communities from northwest Indiana and across the country for a national day of local giving. Marking the centennial anniversary of community foundations, Give Local America invites Porter County residents to raise significant funds for causes right in their own backyard.

The Porter County Community Foundation will host Give Local Porter County to directly benefit 50 local nonprofit organizations. The 24-hour event will be completely online and the money raised will help a wide array of causes. Your gift on May 6 may also help your designated charity win a portion of the more than $100,000 in national and local prize funds, including $5,000 in prizes from Methodist Hospitals. Each individual gift increases an organization’s chances of winning these cash prizes, potentially making your gift go further.

The Give Local event on May 6 is expected to be the largest online fundraising event in history. In addition to the Porter County Community Foundation, other participating local foundations include Legacy Foundation in Lake County, Unity Foundation in LaPorte County and the Crown Point Community Foundation.

Everyone can be a philanthropist

“Give Local America is a big, bold opportunity for our community. We’re encouraging everyone to be a philanthropist by getting behind this effort. Large and small gifts will combine for a really big impact,” said Barb Young, President of the Porter County Community Foundation.
