Nationally Acclaimed Spoken Word Artist Will Host Local Poetry Slam

Lubeznik-JW-BasiloFirst Fridays @ 5 continue at Lubeznik Center for the Arts on April 6 with a Poetry Slam hosted by writer, performer and humorist, J.W. Basilo.

One of the most sought-after and compelling spoken word artists working today, "Baz" has hosted previous Slams at Lubeznik Center — presiding over an evening of friendly spoken word competition and boisterous audience participation. Past winners include Warsaw’s Stephen Henn and a 14 year old Michigan City High School student in his first performance.

Anyone is welcome to perform, but competitors must adhere to the following rules:

  • All work must be original and of the performers’ own construction
  • No props, costumes, or musical instruments
  • You must pre-register in order to read

The Poetry Slam will begin at 5:30 p.m. (central). Performers should contact Lubeznik Center Education Director Janet Bloch, at 219.874.4900 for details.
