New Scholarships Awarded for Study Abroad

Don-Quijote-2012-Scholarships-1Valparaiso High School 2012 graduates Conner Sunday, Elizabeth Baggett and Cynthia Gudino present Carlos Rivero with a special thank you gift and souvenir from their recent visit to Spain. The students were the first recipients of scholarships from the don Quijote Scholarship Fund. Rivero, restaurant owner and community leader, was instrumental in creating the scholarship fund to promote and develop Spanish language and cultural enrichment for high school students through study or travel.

The next fundraiser to benefit the fund will be September 5 as the don Qujote Restaurant and the scholarship board will host a pork and chicken dinner from 5 -7 p.m. in the Popcorn Tent as part of Popcorn Fest week. Advance tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the don Quijote Restaurant in Valparaiso. Tickets will also be available at the door for $12. Proceeds will be used for the 2012-2013 scholarships, to be awarded in November.
