NIPSCO Encouraging Energy Efficiency in Customers

NIPSCO-Energy-AuditAs an energy provider, NIPSCO is focused on providing the best service to their territories, while helping their customers save money. “Our energy efficiency work is what’s so important right now,” stated Kathleen Szot, External Communications Specialist at NIPSCO, “We want to be mindful of helping people with their bills.

Through a variety of programs and suggestions, NIPSCO offers consumers ways to save on their monthly bill. “A lot of people think you have to buy new appliances to save energy,” Kathleen shared, “but there are other ways to make your home greener with what you have.” Being mindful of your thermostat settings and providing regular upkeep on your furnace, such as changing filters when needed, are just two simple ways to reduce energy consumption.

NIPSCO-Recycling-AppliancesKnowing where to start can feel overwhelming when it comes to reducing energy usage so Kathleen suggests “finding an entry point” and going from there. NIPSCO provides a free online energy audit, where consumers can get an idea of their energy usage and tips on how to save money on their bill.

Heating and air conditioning affects more than half of your bill,” emphasized Nick Meyer, Communications Manager. A programmable thermostat can be purchased relatively inexpensively, yet can make a big impact by reducing the amount the furnace and air conditioner runs while no one is at home.

For those in the market for new appliance, NIPSCO offers rebates, starting at $20 up to $750, as an incentive to purchase more energy efficient machines. Recycle your old, working appliances with NIPSCO and they will give you $35, as well as pick up the appliance for free. “The benefit in appliance recycling is a lowering in your bill, from getting rid of an energy user, and a positive impact on the environment,” Nick shared.

Many might wonder why NIPSCO would encourage customers to use less of their product through energy efficiency. “There’s no mark up on gas so we don’t make more or less money if customers use more or less gas,” stated Nick, “If we can figure out ways to meet customer needs, that’s what we work for…making things easier so the customer can do what they want to do.
