Kirby Dipert, field engineer with Lockheed Martin Energy, presented Franciscan Health officials with the incentive check on Feb. 15. The total reflects the 3,812,887 kilowatt hours that the hospital will save annually through energy-saving measures implemented during construction. Those include installation of LED lighting, and efficient chillers, refrigeration and variable-frequency drives.

“This is one of the largest projects in the program’s history,” Dipert said.

Dean Mazzoni, the hospital’s president and CEO, said, “We’re just happy we could make some investment in the facility to support our corporate responsibility that we believe we have, helping the environment.”

NIPSCO offers customers a wide variety of programs to help business of all sizes save money and energy. Business customers can utilize the Energy Efficiency Programs to help offset the cost of implementing energy-efficient technologies. In addition to reduced energy consumption, additional benefits of participation include enhanced equipment performance, extended life expectancy of equipment and reduced maintenance and cost of ownership.

NIPSCO’s program pays 7 cents per kilowatt hour saved for lighting, 10 cents per kilowatt hour saved for non-lighting and $1 per therm of natural gas saved. The program is administered by Lockheed Martin Energy, a third-party implementation specialist that helps businesses save money. For more information, visit NIPSCO.com/SaveEnergy.
