Northshore Health Centers Celebrates Mother’s Day with 2017 Event “We are Wild about Moms”

Northshore Health Centers celebrated mothers on Monday with an event called “We are Wild about Moms” at Bellaboo’s Play & Discovery Center in Lake Station. The event held activities mommy and child could both participate in: pampering and relaxation, shopping, education and resources as well as health screenings for both mom and child.

“Today’s event is all about celebrating moms, giving them a chance to come out and spend some time with their kids,” said Michelle Higel, Lead Family Care Coordinator at NorthShore Health Centers. “It’s also a chance for them to focus on their own healthcare needs.”

Wild About Moms’ was free for families with children. Mothers were encouraged to bring an adult along with them to care for their children so the moms could enjoy all the activities planned just for her.

“We want to make sure that kids get the chance to play and Moms get a little bit of pampering too,” Denise Carpenter, Lead Community Outreach Coordinator for NorthShore.

NorthShore regularly hosts programs and events designed to bring a little fun while raising awareness for a cause or a service. Organizations like MDwise and Geminus - Head Start were on hand to share information about their products an services.

“I always attend their events. They always provide really good resources and information, and the baby always likes it,” said Sharyn Sorrell, local mom.

"We work closely with health centers like NorthShore to bring healthcare and health and wellness education to its members and the community through events like this."

At the end of the day, it is all about connecting with patients and getting to know what they are looking for in a healthcare provider.

“We host these events because we feel it’s very important for our families to feel connected with others and to give them an opportunity to learn more about the services here at NorthShore,” Michelle Higel added.
