NorthShore Seeking to Empower Families through Newly Offered Lactation Program

Family-PlanningA newly offered service at NorthShore, the Lactation Program is provided for any prenatal or postpartum mom and her baby/babies. A free breast feeding class is offered twice a month at the Lake Station location, with the hope of expanding these classes to all locations in the future. This service is provided to moms by Kim Sausman, RN, IBCLC, Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Sausman also sees patients at any of the NorthShore locations, along with providing in-home consultations.

The Lactation Program services include:

  • Private consultations
  • Telephone consultations
  • Home visits
  • Antenatal/postnatal breastfeeding education classes and consultations
  • Education materials
  • Advice on lactation equipment
  • Assistance with obtaining breast pumps

We are excited to have the opportunity to educate, support, and empower our breastfeeding families,” shared Evelyn M. Turner, RN, BSN Prenatal Care Coordinator Nurse Manager. Because of this support, there has been an increase in the number of women who are initiating breastfeeding. We hope with the added support, these women will successfully continue to nurse for their baby’s first year of life.

Breastfeeding is powerful! Let us help you succeed! Contact Kim Sausman at 219.763.8112 ext. 5546 or email ksausman@northshorehealth.org for more information.
