The latest real estate market data for single-family existing homes shows an improvement in the market in both Lake and Porter Counties, reports Jeanne Sommer, broker/owner of CENTURY 21 Alliance Group in Valparaiso, IN.
In January, more homes sold in less time for a higher price in Lake County when compared to January 2012, while Porter County also saw an increase in home sales and the average sales price.
“Our office saw one of our busiest Januarys in years,” said Sommer. “CENTURY 21 Alliance Group’s home sales increased this January compared to last January and we more than doubled our showings in January this year compared to last.”
Sales follow showings, explained Sommer. “We often see an increase in showings result in increased sales later in the year,” added Sommer. “Buyers are out early this year and looking, making now a great time to list your home.”
The number of single-family existing home sales increased from 248 in Lake County in 2012 to 310 in 2013 and from 89 in Porter County to 101. Meanwhile, the average sales price on single-family homes rose from $108,113 to $137,190 in Lake County and from $174,629 to $176,788 in Porter County.
In addition, the days a property was listed on the market was down from 139 last year in Lake County to 122 this year, while Porter County saw an increase from 132 to 165. All data was provided by the Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors and calculated from January 1 to 31 in 2013 and compared to the same time period in 2012.
