OE Celebrates Disability Awareness Month with Alternative Spring Break Activity

oe_logoOpportunity Enterprises is celebrating Disability Awareness Month with an “Alternative Spring Break” activity for children ages 8-16. The event, scheduled for Tuesday, March 29 from 1:30 – 5:00 pm at OE’s main facility at 2801 Evans Avenue in Valparaiso, will begin with a short Sensitivity Training activity designed to help children have a better understanding of, and empathy for, individuals living with disabilities. Participants will then tour the building, and will conclude the afternoon with a volunteer opportunity from 3:00 – 5:00 pm, where participants will help stuff runner bags for the Shamrock Shuffle race which will take place in Chicago on April 10.

Children ages 8-16 are welcome to attend, but each group of children must be accompanied by a responsible adult during the entire event. Accompanying adults will be able to participate in all scheduled activities. The event is free, but RSVP’s are required to Allison Thomas at OE, by phone at 219-464-9621, ext. 239, or e-mail at allison.thomas@oppent.org. Participation is limited to the first 40 adults and children who register.
