Opportunity Enterprises Receives Grant from Horizon-Cares Charitable Grant Program

Horizon-Cares-Charitable-GrantOpportunity Enterprises, Inc. is the recipient of a $2,500 grant from the Horizon-Cares Charitable Grant Program. Currently, Opportunity Enterprises is in the midst of constructing the first apartment building at its Lakeside campus, and the grant funding will be used to support this project.

In the nearly 30 years that Opportunity Enterprises has been providing supported living services to consumers in their own homes or apartments, we have learned many things, but most importantly this: truly accessible housing is nearly impossible to find in Valparaiso and Porter County,” said Ellen DeMartinis, Interim CEO for Opportunity Enterprises. “Our Lakeside apartments will fill this need in our community, and we anticipate that they will be finished at the beginning of March.”

The apartment building will have two floors, four three-bedroom units per floor, and each unit will accommodate three to four roommates. The apartments will house both clients of Opportunities Enterprises’ Supported Living Program, as well as the general public. Semi-independent living in area apartments is becoming an increasingly popular choice for adults with disabilities, especially due to aging parents of adult children with disabilities and a moratorium on Group Homes in Indiana.
