Opportunity Enterprises to Host Vision Awareness Day

EyeglassesJobSource, the community employment program of Opportunity Enterprises, is hosting a Vision Awareness Day on November 28, 2012, from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at OE’s main facility at 2801 Evans Avenue in Valparaiso. The event is presented by Freedom Scientific and sponsored by Eye Can See, Inc., and is tailored for those with vision loss, trainers and instructors, parents and families of those with vision loss, seniors and senior center staff, occupational therapists, and vision support groups.

The event is free and open to the public, and includes a complimentary lunch. Pre-registration is required by calling 800-336-5658, e-mailing seminars@freedomscientific.com, or visiting www.freedomscientific.com/seminars. Early registration is encouraged as seating is limited.

During the morning, the workshop will focus on low vision awareness, and attendees will learn about low vision, vision rehabilitation, and tools for activities of daily living. Topics include information about video magnifiers, computer screen magnification software, and technology that reads aloud books, bills, and mail.

After lunch, the workshop will focus on blindness awareness, and will share information about technology solutions such as screen reading software, Braille displays, scanning and reading and more.
