Parents Group: A Time to Share, Discuss, Learn

Family-Youth-Services-Parent-GroupI often begin the session with a simple question: what is going on in your family’s life this week?” says Dan Rau, Clinical Services Counselor.

Rau facilitates the Parent’s Group at Family & Youth Services Bureau, a ten session group developed to give support to parents and offer an opportunity to learn new parenting skills.

Each group consists of up to eight parents and the weekly sessions last an hour. Topics include learning about appropriate expectations for each age group, the difference between discipline and punishment, discovering what drives children’s behavior, and many other topics relevant to today’s parents.
