Parks Department Receives Donation from VU Sports Administration Masters Program

Tuesday, August 26th, graduates of the Sports Administration Masters Program of Valparaiso University presented a generous $1500 donation to the Valparaiso Department of Parks and Recreation.  Park Board Vice President, Deb Butterfield, thanked the students as she accepted the check during the monthly Park Board meeting held at Forest Park Golf Course.

Each year the Sports Administration Masters Program students host the “Jerry Steiger Golf Outing” to raise funds for a local charity.   This year, they chose to give the proceeds to the park department.   Park Director, John Seibert, announced that staff will use the gift to purchase new soccer goals for the park system, allowing the department to put soccer goals at Will Park, located nearby the university.   Seibert said, “It’s a really nice connection that the gift from the students will provide recreational opportunities for families closest to the university.”
