Part-time Job Ideas For Retirees

Need a retirement from your retirement? If this well deserved time-off feels a little too dull, you can look to an enjoyable part-time job to fill your free time. A flexible part-time job is a great way for retirees to earn extra money and have some fun! Check out these ideas from the AARP list of the five of the best part-time jobs for retirees:

1. Online Blogger

Blogging is a great past-time for those who like a flexible schedule and have something to share. Although most online writers make less than $100 a month, blogging is a great way to join a community of writers and share your opinions. If you prefer to work from home you can also consider a position as a customer service representative, an online tutor or even an online juror.

2. Sports Coach

A sports coach or referee position may be the perfect part-time job if you enjoy athletics and teaching. Coaching and referee hours are seasonal depending on the sport and the age group. Referees and umpires make $30-50 per game while more time consuming high school positions pay about $3,000 per season. Recreational leagues and assistant coach positions are another option if you want to get involved but don’t want a huge time commitment.

3. Tour Jobs

Do you have a knack for history and fun facts? A part-time job as a tour guide offers an outlet for you to share your knowledge about local history, meet a variety of people and also get some exercise. Tour guide time commitments vary but many tours run on the weekends and pick up over the summer and holidays. Part-time tour guides bring in about $8-18 per hour.

4. Librarian Assistant

A Librarian Assistant works during peak library hours to answer questions, check out books, and re-shelve returns. If you enjoy reading and helping others, then working in a library may be your perfect part-time job. Many positions are for volunteers but colleges, high schools and city libraries offer $8-17 per hour.

5. Teacher’s Aide

If you love working with kids but don’t want a full-time teaching position, a teacher’s aide job is a great compromise. Aides act as a support system for the teacher by grading papers and offering one-on-one tutoring to struggling students. Teacher’s aides can make anywhere from $15,000 to $35,000 a year, depending on the hours.
