Boys_and_Girls_Club_Outing_1-90The sun was shining, the temperature was perfect and the clubs were swinging! The Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County 31st Annual Golf Outing held on July 14th at Forest Park Golf Course was once again a huge success. Over 144 golfers and over 25 volunteers showed their support for the 5,000 club members we serve. The annual golf outing was a day of fellowship, food, fun and most importantly raising dollars for children. The annual golf outing is one of two special events that take place during the year to raise funds for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County.

The clubs provide diverse activities that meet the interests of all youth through their five areas of program activities. Sports, fitness and recreation is one of the areas in which the club members are actively involved on a daily basis. Having the necessary equipment; dodge balls, hula hoops, jump ropes, kick balls, basketballs, just to name a few is one of the many ways that these funds are to put to good use.

Science experiments, trivia contests, and newspaper clubs, are a sample of the many activities that happen in the Learning Center. Without caring individuals, corporations and local businesses, that attend the golf outing, this life-enhancing program through our Education and Career Development core would also not be possible.

Thank you to the Official Sponsor of the golf outing, M.E. Simpson, Inc. and to ValpoLife.com for capturing photos from our special day. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County is extremely grateful for all the community support and to those who were a part of this event from outside Porter County also. The generous support we receive provides us with the financial foundation for our key programs as well as to try innovative ideas and expand our reach.

Our next special event is our 12th annual Steak & Burger celebration dinner and silent auction. This will be held on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Valparaiso University’s Harre Union. Father Edward A. “Monk” Malloy, President Emeritus of Notre Dame and on the Board of Governors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) will be our keynote speaker. Special guest appearance by Roxanne Spillette, President & CEO of the BGCA. Come join the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County as we kick off a year-long celebration commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County.

Using a youth development strategy, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County strives to give members ages 5 to 18 with a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence & competence.
