PNC Academic Super Bowl Winners

Purdue University North Central recently hosted two nights of Academic Super Bowl Invitational competition with students from throughout Northwest Indiana competing.

The first night of Academic Super Bowl competition included teams from eight of the nine Porter County High Schools competing in their sixth annual competition. The team of students representing Chesterton High School took first place overall. This was the fourth time that the Chesterton team took first place.

The team representing Morgan Township High School placed second and Portage High School took third.

The following night, the fourth annual LaPorte County Senior Academic Super Bowl Open Invitational included teams from throughout Northwest Indiana and concluded with the team from North White High School in Monon taking first place, with Michigan City High School in second and La Porte High School in third place.

Each night saw more than more than 200 people, including students, coaches and spectators taking part in the event. The competition theme was "Colonial and Revolutionary America." Students competed in six subject areas - English, science, fine arts, social studies, math and interdisciplinary.

The Porter County winners in each round were:

  • English - third - Chesterton; second - Washington Township; first - Morgan Township
  • Science - third - Morgan Township; second - Wheeler; first - Chesterton
  • Fine Arts - third - Chesterton; second - Valparaiso; first -Kouts
  • Social Studies - third place - Valparaiso; second - Morgan Township; first - Chesterton
  • Math - third - Washington Township; second - Portage; first - Chesterton
  • Interdisciplinary - third - Kouts; second - Morgan Township; first - Chesterton.

The LaPorte County winners in each round were:

  • English - third place - Michigan City; second - Home Scholars; first - La Porte
  • Science - third place - LaCrosse; second - Michigan City, first - North White
  • Fine Arts - third place - North White; second - Michigan City; first - LaCrosse
  • Social Studies - third place - River Forest; second - North White; first - Michigan City
  • Math - third place -Michigan City; second - LaCrosse; first -Elkhart Christian
  • Interdisciplinary - third place - Oregon-Davis; second - Home Scholars; first - La Porte

Super Bowl competition in Indiana is a part of the Indiana Association of School Principals, Department of Student Programs. This unique inter-scholastic academic competition program allows Indiana's senior high, junior, middle and elementary school students an opportunity to compete in academics similar to an athletic contest. The academic competitions encourage academic achievement by offering participants recognition and reward by honoring intellectual achievement, academic competition celebrating scholarship.
