The Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) has granted approval to Purdue University North Central for the College of Engineering and Technology to offer a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. PNC students will have the opportunity to enroll in these bachelor's degree classes for the fall of 2011.

This becomes the 20th bachelor's degree program offered by PNC. It also gives students another option to earn an esteemed Purdue engineering degree close to home and at an affordable tuition.
"I am pleased that our students now have the opportunity to earn a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at Purdue North Central," said PNC Chancellor Dr. James B. Dworkin. "Our research indicates that there is a solid demand for electrical engineers in Northern Indiana. There are a number of exciting career options open to graduates with a degree in electrical engineering."
Dworkin also noted that thanks to an articulation agreement with Ivy Tech Community College, graduates of the Ivy Tech pre-engineering program may transfer to the PNC engineering bachelor's degree programs to continue their studies.
Dean of the PNC College of Engineering and Technology Dr. Larryl Matthews also noted that the new degree coincides with the existing Mechanical Engineering (ME) degree. Matthews also noted that the ME degree started four years ago and will honor its first graduating class this spring.
Today, the Purdue North Central College of Engineering and Technology offers bachelor's degrees in Computer & Information Technology, Construction Engineering & Management Technology, Engineering Technology , Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, electrical engineers are expected to see employment growth through 2018. The median earnings for electrical engineers in 2008 (the most recent data available) was $82,160.
The proposed electrical engineering curriculum is designed to meet the accreditation requirements for the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET).
