Purdue University North Central Chancellor Dr. James B. Dworkin was recently presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Medical Association of Northwest Indiana.
The award is given annually to recognize an individual who has worked to better the quality of life in Northwest Indiana.
Dworkin was nominated for the honor by Dr. Vidya Kora, a Michigan City physician and school board member who is an active member of the Indian Medical Association of Northwest Indiana.
"I am delighted that Dr. Dworkin was selected for this honor and I was equally delighted to have the opportunity to present him with the award," said Kora. "This recognizes his accomplishments at Purdue North Central and in the community as well as his ongoing efforts to reach out to the diverse population of Northwest Indiana."
Kora also noted that Dworkin has shown an incomparable commitment to Purdue North Central and higher education, but has also dedicated himself to promoting excellence in education in local school districts.

"He has helped to recruit top-flight candidates for superintendent positions in Michigan City, LaPorte and Westville. He helped initiate the PNC College Bound program that provides college educations for students in the Michigan City, LaPorte and Portage school systems. He has played a vital role in economic development activities in our area. There is no way to accurately measure the positive impact that he has had on Northwest Indiana," said Kora.
The Indian Medical Association of Northwest Indiana presented this and other awards as part of its 30th annual gala celebration The association promotes excellence in the medical field, community service and advances awareness of the Indian culture.
Each year it provides scholarships to valedictorians of high schools located throughout Northwest Indiana, to area medical school and nursing students as well as medical students in India.
