Purdue University North Central has been awarded an Operation Diploma grant to develop programs and policies designed to boost academic success of student service members and veterans on campus. PNC

The $50,000 grant is made possible with funding from Lilly Endowment Inc., and awarded through the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University Operation Diploma program.

PNC earned an Operation Diploma grant for the 2009 - 2010 that was committed to strengthening educational services for veterans at PNC. Through that grant, a Veteran's Club was formed; partnerships were formed with community agencies to help veterans achieve access to higher education and seminars were held to educate PNC staff about the best practices in veteran education.

"All military veterans and active service members are welcome in our PNC classrooms," said Lawrence Barrett, vice chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Services. "Veterans have always been a part of our student population, so it is appropriate for us to offer a variety of services and support. At PNC we are committed to providing personalized student services."

The Veteran's Club on campus offers an opportunity for veterans to get together in an informal setting to network, make friends and support one another as PNC students and as veterans. Membership includes male and female members representing all branches of the military, from current active members to Viet Nam-era veterans and from all walks of life. Members of the PNC Veterans Club are available for Veteran-to-Veteran Campus Tours so that veterans and their guests may tour the campus, ask questions about student and campus life and learn about the admissions and financial aid process.

PNC also hosted a Veteran's Day ceremony on Nov. 11 and declared April as Veterans Awareness Month featuring guest speakers addressing a variety of veteran's issues.

Fall semester classes begin the week of Aug. 23. Veteran's and active service members interested in enrolling at Purdue North Central may learn more at http://www.pnc.edu/ap/veterans.html.
