The Purdue University North Central Elementary Education program has been nationally recognized by the Association for Childhood Education International/National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (ACEI/NCATE) without conditions in August, 2011.

In its review, the ACEI reviewers commented that the PNC Elementary Education Program is "a very strong program" in which "faculty offer the candidates every opportunity to demonstrate mastery of the standards," and "candidates perform very well on the assessments."

Dr. Rex Morrow, dean of the PNC College of Liberal Arts, noted the significance of this recognition, "The ACEI national program approval process is a vital part of the required state and national accountability measures which assures that teacher candidates receive a very high quality education."

Dr. Kam Chi Chan, Education Department interim chair, explained that institutions earning ACEI/NCATE national recognition without conditions status in 2010 was about 25 percent.

"Only about one in four universities receive national recognition without imposed conditions in 2010," said Chan. "This is a tremendous honor for Purdue North Central and is indication of the quality of our program and our faculty's commitment to excellence in teaching."
