PNC Faculty Member Takes Part in Faculty Leadership Conference

Purdue University North Central assistant professor of English Dr. Paul Hecht, took part in a panel discussion that was presented as part of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education annual Faculty Leadership Conference, "Faculty Engagement Toward Student Learning Outcomes"

The keynote speaker for the conference was Carol Geary Schneider, president of the Association of American Colleges & Universities.

Hecht was a part of the panel discussing "Student Learning Outcomes in Indiana: A Response to Dr. Schneider" that followed Schneider's address. This panel shared perspectives from Indiana campuses about the challenges and opportunities presented by recent initiatives and proposals related to student learning outcomes.

Others on the panel were Marianne Wokeck, chancellor's professor of History; co-chair, History Discipline Team, Tuning Indiana Pilot, IUPUI and Elizabeth Mix, associate professor of Arts and Design, Butler University.

Hecht is in a unique position to address this issue as the Purdue University North Central Faculty Senate has adopted the Association of American Colleges and Universities Essential Learning Outcomes for its general education curriculum. PNC is the first university in Indiana to adopt the Essential Learning Outcomes.

By adopting the Essential Learning Outcomes, this indicates that PNC will take on the highest national standards for general education so that all students receive the best and most powerful preparation for work, life, and citizenship and are prepared for 21st century challenges.
