Purdue University North Central will observe Constitution Day on Thursday, Sept. 17, with a variety of activities presented throughout the day. All events are free and open to the public and will take place on campus in the Library-Student-Faculty Building, Room 144.
The day's schedule is:
7:30 a.m. - Robert J. Beckman, LaPorte County Prosecuting Attorney, who will discuss, "The Bill of Rights in Indiana Criminal Law." Beckman will give an insider's view of key aspects of the Bill of Rights in the U.S. Constitution and how they relate to Indiana criminal law and procedure. Breakfast will be served.
11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. - PNC students will present a fun and informal challenge to test your knowledge of the Constitution. A digital camera will be awarded to the winner.
11:30 to 1:30 p.m. - PNC Education students will present the "ABC's of Democracy" a student-developed look at how the Amendments, Bill of Rights, Constitution and Declaration of Independence have influenced and directed the development of American democracy. These learning activities focus on the process of amending the Constitution, developing a timeline of events during the Civil War, the role of slavery and playing a game about the Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence.
