PNC Hosts Social Sciences Colloquium

Christabel-RogalinPurdue University North Central will present a Social Sciences Colloquium with Dr. Christabel Rogalin, assistant professor of Sociology, speaking on "Overdoing Gender? A Test of the Masculine Overcompensation Thesis" on March 23 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Library-Student-Faculty Building Assembly Hall, Room 02.. The event is free and open to the public.

Rogalin explains her topic, "'Go ahead, make my day!' The masculine overcompensation thesis asserts that men react to masculinity threats with extreme demonstrations of masculinity. This presentation will discuss how this often-cited account for hypermasculine behaviors was tested across four studies. Together, the results support the masculine overcompensation thesis, suggesting how it may play a role in broad-based patterns of political and cultural attitudes, and identify a hormonal factor influencing the effect."
