PNC Knows Golf, Any Way You Slice It.

Sand Creek Country Club was full of black and gold on Monday morning for the PNC Chancellor's Invitational Golf Outing. This is the premier fundraiser for Purdue North Central’s athletic department and alumni. PNC is a growing college and this fundraiser will help to see that the college keeps up with that growing number of students that walk through its doors.

“This is a golf outing for our student athletes as well as out alumni and to raise money for the scholarship program ant the university,”Tom Albano, Alumni and Annual Fund Coordinator at PNC, said. “All the proceeds from this event go right back to our students. It goes primarily to two things: one is athletic scholarships and it also goes back into the programs and it deals with a lot of things in ways of funding. It helps with apparel, it helps with travel, and it helps with a lot of the good things that they are doing throughout the year. The other part is alumni scholarships. So it goes to some of our students to help pay for classes throughout the year and books.”

The day started out with a lovely breakfast created by the kitchen staff of Sand Creek. While everyone ate and chatted, they all had a chance to take part on the silent auction that was another facet of the outing. Great items were up for bid like (but not limited to) a Weber Grill, autographed football jerseys, a LED Purdue Pete sign, and an autographed NHL Stanley Cup game jersey. Not only was a silent auction at everyone’s fingertips, all of the guests received goodie bags with Purdue memorabilia to take home them before upon registration.

Once everyone had eaten and perused the auction, all 53 registered teams hopped into their designated golf carts and drove onto the well-kept course. The game was a four-person scramble that lasted 18 holes. Teams competed against each other for the awesome prizes that awaited the winners like a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and other brand new cars. Awards were given to the overall winners, as well as those who got: Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive, Closest to the Line on a Drive, etc.

Jon Weber is the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Services, Dean of Students, and Athletic Director at PNC. He was at the golf outing and helped coordinated the event along with Albano.

“This is the second biggest golf outing that we’ve had and we’re real pleased,” Weber said. “We have many new teams and this is something to build on for next year. Next year will be even bigger and better…this is one of the biggest golf outings in Northwest Indiana so we’re really pleased about that, too.”

There was a lot to be pleased about as the golf outing had a fantastic group of people in attendance as well as fantastic weather that day. We’re all looking forward to next year!
