PNC, Libraries Present “Much Ado About Nothing”

Much-Ado-About-NothingThe movie "Much Ado About Nothing" will be shown Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at the LaPorte County Public Library, 904 Indiana Ave., LaPorte thanks to collaboration among the Purdue University North Central Odyssey Arts and Cultural Events Series, the LaPorte County Public Library and the Michigan City Library. The showing is free and open to the public.

The film is rated PG-13 for some language and eroticism.

"Much Ado About Nothing," which was released in June, is indeed an adaptation of the centuries-old work by William Shakespeare. This black and white film was written, produced and directed by Joss Whedon, who created the television shows "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and was writer and director of the film, "The Avengers."

"The New York Times" critic A.O. Scott described this as the "liveliest and most purely delightful movie I have seen so far this year." Scott described the movie costumes as contemporary and noted that the voices play in a pop-culture dimension that Whedon's fans will enjoy.

"Variety" noted "the film's whimsically patched-together spirit feels satisfyingly like the play to which it so endearingly pays homage."
