The Purdue University North Central Math Club will host the presentation, "Algebra: It's not just X's and Y's" on Monday, Sept. 24, at noon in Library-Student-Faculty Building, Room 170A. The event is free and open to the public. Guests may bring a lunch or purchase one in the nearby cafeteria.
Dr. David J. Feikes, PNC professor of Mathematics, will discuss topics such as: What is algebra? What is the difference between arithmetic and algebra? What are the fundamental prerequisite concepts necessary to reason algebraically?
In his presentation, Feikes will attempt to answer these questions and share information on the Conceptual Algebra Readiness for Everyone (CARE) Project. Participants will take part in an activity designed to develop algebraic reasoning.
The PNC Math Club encourages persons of all interests who have a curiosity about Math to attend and learn more. Non-Math majors are welcomed.
The Math Club meets throughout the academic year and sponsors discussions and informational presentations on various aspects of mathematics and related fields. All events are open to the public.
