Kumara-JayasuriyaThe Purdue University North Central graduates of the MBA class of 2014 recently presented their Outstanding Faculty Award to Dr. Kumara Jayasuriya, associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and professor of Mathematics, for his teaching of the Quantitative Methods course.

“We are delighted that Dr. Jayasuriya was recognized. This is one of the most challenging courses for our students and he was able to bring his enthusiastic style and passion for mathematics to the classroom.” said Dr. Cynthia Roberts, dean of the PNC College of Business. “He is able to take complex statistical concepts and demonstrate how useful they can be in making effective managerial decisions.”

“Teaching Mathematics is my passion. I am very grateful for the opportunity to teach the Quantitative Methods course in the MBA program. This class was very special because I had very dedicated and intelligent students. I would like to thank Dean Roberts for providing me the opportunity to teach, “ said Jayasuriya.

Jayasuriya came to PNC in 2011 after serving as dean of Science and Mathematics in the Indiana University system. On July 1, he will be moving on to a new position, serving as provost of West Virginia State University.

“We will be sorry to see Dr. Jayasuriya leave. He was an asset to our MBA program and a great member of our team of professors who take pride in preparing their students by developing leadership, strategic thinking, and teamwork skills,” said Roberts.

“In his short time on this campus, he was able to implement many operational improvements, served as the campus liaison for the Purdue University graduate school, fostered the development of additional graduate programming, and encouraged the growth of PNC’s online presence.”
