PNC Promotes Faculty Members

Purdue University North Central announces that the Purdue University Board of Trustees approved the promotion of nine faculty members. These promotions become effective with the 2011 -2012 academic year.

"These promotions recognize the significant achievements of our faculty members," said Dr. James B. Dworkin, Chancellor of Purdue North Central. "These educators consistently promote excellence in the classroom. They challenge their students to learn and explore and they are willing to pass their knowledge and experience along to their students. We are proud to have these outstanding professionals as members of our PNC faculty. I extend my thanks and congratulations to each of them."

Academic tenure is acquired on promotion to the rank of associate professor. Candidates promoted to this rank have accumulated a record of accomplishment as a faculty member and show promise of continued professional growth and recognition.

Those promoted are:

Carin Chuang, to associate professor of Computer & InformationTechnology. She will receive her Ph.D. from Purdue University. She earned a master's degree from Michigan State University and a Bachelor's degree from Soochow University in Taipei, Taiwan.

Annette Coates, to clinical associate professor of Nursing. She holds both a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in nursing from Loyola University, Chicago.

Thomas Dobrowski, to associate professor of Building Construction & Management Technology. Dobrowski, a PNC faculty member since 2005, earned his bachelor's degree and an M.B.A. from Purdue University.

Dr. Nancy Marthakis, to associate professor of Biology. Marthakis holds a D.O. from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Harchini Fernando, to associate professor of Mathematics. Fernando was granted a Ph.D. from Texas Tech University, a master's degree from University of South Florida and a bachelor's degree from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka.

Dr. Steven (Kim) Scipes, to associate professor of Sociology. He holds a bachelor's degree from Florida State University, a master's degree from the Institute of Social Sciences, The Hauge, The Netherlands and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Jonathan Swarts, to associate professor of Political Science. He received a bachelor's degree from the Universtiy of Akron and his master's degree and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Aaron Warren, to associate professor of Physics. Warren earned his bachelor's degree from Vassar college and a Ph.D. from Rutgers University.

Dr. Daniel Wilbur, to associate professor of Communication. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees and Ph.D. from Purdue University.
