In collaboration with the Purdue University North Central Student Activities Council, the Ranting Llamas Improv Troupe hosted Hilarity for Charity, an event started by Seth Rogan to entertain audiences with improvisational comedy in an effort to raise awareness and funds for The Alzheimer's Association.
"Seth Rogan is trying to expand the event," said one of the starting members of the Ranting Llamas Troupe, Leah Gladkowski. "He's pitting universities against each other to see who raises more money."
Educating the audience about Alzheimer's, the event began with true or false questions about the disease. Audience members were asked to raise cards with either a "T" or "F" in response to statements such as, "Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that causes problems with memories, thinking and behavior" (true) and, "Alzheimer's accounts for 50 to 80 percent of dementia cases?" (also true).
The Ranting Llamas continued the evening of laughs with improv games such as "The Dating Game," and "Story-Time with Perry" where members of the troupe acted out story themes and roles decided by the audience. Audience members laughed away as one member of the troupe was forced to decide whether he would like to date the truck driver, the sorority girl, or a stripper version of Rumpelstiltskin.
A good way to have an enjoyable evening while also contributing to a good cause, the Ranting Llamas left an impression on the audience.
"Total randomness, thinking on the spot... improv is a fun thing to watch and be a part of," said audience member and PNC student, Travis Ziegler.
