Director's Award - Debbie Birch, director of TRiO Success Through Education. She began her career at PNC in 1991 as an educational advisor in Success Through Education and became director in 1996. As director, she has acquired three Talent Search grants totaling more than $3 million. In 2007, PNC Success Through Education earned the Youth Investment award from the Indiana Youth Institute.

Distinguished Student Support Services Alumna Award - D. Carol Kurmis, director for Enrollment Management & Program Support at Purdue North Central - Porter County. She graduated from PNC in 2002 with a bachelor's degree and earned a master's degree in 2007. In 2003, she became the academic coordinator for the PNC TRiO sSs program and in 2007 became the director for Enrollment Management & Program Support at Purdue North Central - Porter County. She also serves as a part-time instructor.

PNC Student Support Services is a federally-funded program providing academic support to students through a variety of services - one-on-one peer tutoring; advising students on study skills, time management, financial literacy, social and cultural activities and resource material loans of study materials, laptops, calculators, text books. All services are free.

Students must meet at least one eligibility requirement - is a student with low-income; is a first generation college student or have a documented disability. Applicants must also be in need of one of the sSs services, be fully enrolled at PNC; intend to earn a degree in four to six years and qualify for federal financial aid.
