The Lubeznik Center for the Arts in Michigan City will present the theatrical production, "Two Playwrights and a Stage," on Feb. 1, featuring the work of Jerry Holt, PNC assistant professor of English, and Susan Block, the 2009 Poet Laureate of LaPorte County. The program is presented free.
"Two Playwrights and a Stage" will feature four short plays with PNC students Sarah Dwight, of LaPorte and Justin Sech, of Kouts, starring in two of the productions.
Holt, who currently serves as interim chair of the PNC Department of English and Modern Languages, will offer two new plays, both set in Michigan City. One, "Train Stop," concerns the unusual career of real-life Michigan City resident Anita King. The second, "Ledge," involves three hapless people who all choose the same moment to thrust themselves from the top of the Blue Chip Casino.
Holt's plays begin at 6 p.m. and Block's at 7 p.m. The Lubeznik Center for the Arts is located at 101 W. 2nd St., Michigan City.
Block, a Michigan City resident, has had her work featured in "The Chicago Tribune" and many other periodicals. Four of her one-act plays were presented at the Footlight Theater in 2011.
Dwight appeared in "Top Girls" last summer at the Dunes Theater. She'll be playing Sally in Susan Block's play "Vanilla."
Sech, an English major, starred in "God of Carnage" and "The Laramie Project" presented on campus. He will star as John Follows Jr. in "Vanilla."
