PNC Theatre Presents: An Evening Of One-Act Plays

PNC-Much-Ado-About-NothingPurdue University North Central students will present an evening of eight, one-act plays to be performed on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m., Nov. 3 at 3:00 p.m., Nov. 5 at 5:30 p.m., and Nov. and 8 at 7:00 p.m. All performances will be in the Library-Student-Faculty Building, Assembly Hall, Room 02. Admission is free for students with ID from any school and $5 for all others. Some pieces have strong language and adult themes, parental discretion is advised.

These 10- to 15-minute shows include five plays by contemporary playwright David Ives; "Sure Thing," "The Philadelphia," "English Made Simple," "Babel's in Arms," and "Degas, C'est Moi." Two pieces by local playwright and PNC English and Modern Languages Department Chair Dr. Jerry Holt: "Smoking Room" and "Clown at Midnight" as well as one play written by students Ashley Abila, Aaron Collings, Sarah Dwight, and Raven Jackson: "The Trouble with Craigslist." The night will also feature one student-directed piece.

The plays vary in setting and style, but all center on the theme of making relationships work and using language to shape experiences. The methods that the characters try (and sometimes fail) to reach these goals often have surprising and hilarious consequences.

The cast and crew include PNC students Ashley Abila, of Lake Station, Aram Arden, of LaPorte, Lisa Babigian, of LaPorte, Keesha Barker, of Michigan City, Aaron Collings, of LaPorte, Sarah Dwight, of LaPorte, Meghan Etzler, of Valparaiso, Rebecca Fitzgerald, of Chesterton, Raven Jackson, of Michigan City, Emily Littell, of Hebron, Michael Piet, of Valparaiso, Tyler Bolla, of Hebron, and Ashley Taylor, of Grovertown, as well as Purdue Calumet professor Scott Bayer, of Chesterton.
