PNC To Commemorate Veterans Day 2013

Veterans-DayPurdue University North Central will host its annual Veterans Day program on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in the Library-Student-Faculty Building Assembly Hall, Room 02. The event will honor all veterans, with special attention paid to PNC students, faculty and staff who are veterans. The public is invited to attend.

Refreshments will be served immediately following in Library-Student-Faculty Building, Room 144.

The event's guest speaker will be Rear Admiral Jeffrey Harbeson, deputy director for Politico-Military Affairs for Europe, NATO and Russia to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The program will include: the presentation of the colors; the singing of the "Star Spangled Banner" by the Panther Voices, directed by Richard Bohan, PNC Physics Lab technician and former Army sergeant first class, welcoming and closing comments will be offered by Paulina Jagodzinska, PNC Veterans Club president and an Army private first class. Purdue North Central Chancellor Dr. James B. Dworkin will also address the group.

The winner of the Veterans Organization Scholarship will read the winning essay selection.

As part of the ceremony, names of current or deceased veterans submitted by PNC students, faculty and staff will be read by Tony Sindone, PNC continuing lecturer of Economics and former Air Force Tech Sergeant; John Herman, Army veteran and PNC Veterans Club Advisor and assistant director of High School Consortiums and Jim Stemmler, LaPorte Veterans Foreign War Post 1130 member and former Army corporal.

Steve Peterka will perform "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes to close the event.
