The Purdue North Central Women's Association (PNCWA) International Friendship Group will present the program "Gaviotas, A Village to Reinvent the World" on Tuesday, March 20 at noon in Schwarz Hall, Room 119. The event is free and open to the public.

The program presenters will be Dr. Kenneth Kincaid, assistant professor of Latin American History and Martha Garcia-Saenz, associate professor of Building Construction Management and Technology and a past president of the PNC Women's Association.
Gaviotas is a sustainable village located in a harsh environment of a treeless eastern savannah in Colombia. It is a place where small scale and affordable technology respects the people and the planet. This presentation will transport listeners to a place where sustainable development and appropriate technology is a reality. Gaviotas has its own invented wind turbines to convert mild tropical breezes into energy, solar collectors for rain, ultra-efficient pumps are easy to operate and are hooked up to children's see-saws in the playground. When temperatures are high and uncomfortable, air is conducted under the earth to refresh a hospital in an area.
The United Nations has named Gaviotas "a model for the developing world."
PNCWA International Friendship Group gathers to celebrate women as they share culture, traditions and friendship. Attendees may bring a lunch, a friend, and an open and curious mind.
The PNCWA was established March 21, 2001 to serve the women of PNC and its service area. The Association offers a variety of social and educational activities for its members. Membership is open to all interested women within the PNC service area.
