The Purdue North Central Women's Association (PNCWA) International Friendship Group will present the program "Bamboo Constructions Around The World" on Tuesday, Feb.14 at noon in Schwarz Hall Room 119. The event is free and open to the public.

The presenter of the program will be Martha Garcia-Saenz, associate professor of Building Construction Management and Technology and a past president of the PNC Women Association.
According to Garcia-Saenz, bamboo is called the wood of the 21st century and has been used for centuries in some places around the world in construction for scaffolding and for housing purposes. Traditionally it has been the wood for the poor and it is now becoming the wood of the modern times.
In the last 20 years it has been more popular than before due to its characteristics, rapid replacement and new uses. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on earth with reported growth rates of 39 inches in 24 hours.
During this presentation the audience will have the opportunity to see the shift from the poor to the rich; to learn about the myths, legends, traditional and modern uses of bamboo in construction as the main and fundamental structure, as well as for flooring, windows, decorations, utensils, tools and more.
PNCWA International Friendship Group gathers to celebrate women as they share culture, traditions and friendship. Attendees may bring a lunch, a friend, and an open and curious mind.
The PNCWA was established March 21, 2001 to serve the women of PNC and its service area. The Association offers a variety of social and educational activities for its members. Membership is open to all interested women within the PNC service area.
