PNW Receives $482,926 Grant From National Science Foundation

Purdue-Northwest-colorPurdue University Northwest, a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education designated by National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS), has received a Scholarship for Services Capacity Building Grant awarded by National Science Foundation (NSF) for $482,926.

This grant will enable a three-year project to develop course curriculum modules, including virtual reality 3-dimensional games, robotic programming games, and practical labs based on simulated cases, for cybersecurity teaching in high school classrooms and extracurricular activities.

Purdue Northwest Associate Professors of Computer Information Technology and Graphics Michael Tu, Ge Jin and Tae-Hoon Kim and Clinical Associate Professor of Instructional Technology Anastasia Trekles led the grant investigation.

The goal is to broaden the participation in the cybersecurity workforce and give high school students the awareness of future education pathways. Through innovative teaching methods, coupled with developmentally appropriate curriculum, opportunities will become more accessible to students of varying ability levels. This project will expand cybersecurity education and practices, which will greatly help address the crucial need of the future workforce.
