PNW Women in Engineering and Technology Scholarships

PNW-Women-in-Engineering-Scholarship-2016The Purdue University Northwest Women in Engineering and Technology organization on the North Central campus recently awarded scholarships to Kaylee Sheets, of Valparaiso, a Computer Information Technology major and Katelyn Satter, of Valparaiso, an Electrical Engineering Technology major.

“These students are very worthy recipients,” said Martha Garcia-Saenz, PNW associate professor of Construction Engineering and Management Technology and the group’s faculty advisor. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to award these scholarships so that Kaylee and Katelyn may continue to work toward earning their degrees.”

Garcia-Saenz was instrumental to bringing the Women in Engineering and Technology program to the North Central campus. She was a member of the organization when she was a student at the West Lafayette campus, and she knew the importance of having a mentor, someone to talk to and friends who share similar interests.

That is why she decided to bring the organization to the North Central campus during the 2002 spring semester and provide a similar opportunity for the North Central students. Male students and faculty members are welcome to join and they regularly attend meetings and events.

The program encourages female students to succeed academically, personally and professionally through seminars, talks and discussion with guest speakers from alumni, industry and academia.
