Are you going to the Popcorn Festival this year on September 12th? Will you be attending any of the festivities at the Popcorn Tent? If so, you won't be alone--Banta Feeds Food Drives is going to be there too.
The Popcorn Festival Food Drive will be taking place between the dates of September 8th-12th. A Banta Feeds container will be placed at the entrance of the Orville Redenbacher Popcorn Tent, downtown on Lafayette St., where all of the Popcorn Fest guests will be asked to insert a non-perishable food donation. All of the donations collected will be distributed to one of our Porter County food pantries.
Banta Feeds is a grassroots, Valparaiso-based organization that has been facilitating community-oriented food drives to benefit our Porter County neighbors who are struggling to keep their heads above water since March of this year. Born by a Banta Neighborhood Food Drive in Valparaiso, Banta Feeds is now growing and expanding into serving the county that we live in as well. Banta Feeds has performed 5 neighborhood food drives in the city of Valparaiso: Banta, Central, Lincolnway, Northview and Jefferson Park.
Between the dates of August 26th-29th, our city's Jefferson Park Neighborhood took the crown as our most current winner in the ongoing city neighborhood food drive battle. The residents of the Jefferson Park Neighborhood came together and worked as a team to accumulate 65 bags and 2 boxes of food and home supply donations that were distributed to First Contact and the New Creation Men's Center, both in Valparaiso. Valparaiso's spirited residents are not stopping, and either is Banta Feeds.
The Popcorn Festival Food Drive is on its' way. If you are coming to any of the events at the Popcorn Festival, please don't forget to bring a donation with you to drop off at the tent. This gesture that only takes a second to do, will accumulate a mountain of food that will result in making many meals possible for our neighbors who are having a hard time putting food on the table for their children and themselves. It's time to come together for the Popcorn Fest, and it's time to come together to help each other out. Let's get it poppin'!
