Porter Health System associate’s Taffy Arias, RN, Chief Nursing Officer and Gary Atherton, Emergency Management Chair and EMS Director were recent presenters at the 6th Annual Disaster Planning For Hospitals Summit.
The event featured more than 15 health system executives who discussed various topics crucial to effective disaster preparedness. Arias and Atherton chaired a session entitled “Develop, Implement and Align Your Disaster Preparation Strategy with Strategic Surge Capacity Planning. During the presentation, those in attendance learned the appropriate steps to implement a disaster plan with particular emphasis on surge capacity.
“We hoped the audience came away understanding how to measure surge capacity during a disaster as well as employ effective disaster training strategies,” Atherton said.
Held in early August at the Wyndam Blake Hotel in Chicago, the Disaster Planning Summit was hosted by World Research Group.
