Porter Raises the Beam

Porter-Raises-the-Beam-9Despite the harsh winter, construction on the new Porter hospital has continued and is right on schedule to open in September of 2012! On Friday, March 18, 2011, the last beam of the frame, signed by Porter associates, doctors and volunteers, was put into place. The new hospital has achieved accomplishments in some of the major construction areas, including:

Site work

  • Clearing/grading is 100% complete
  • Site utilities are 98% complete. Onsite water is 98% complete
  • Asphalt paving is 45% complete
  • Concrete curb/gutters are 80% complete

Concrete

  • Structural concrete foundations/retaining walls are 100% complete
  • Slab on grade pours on the first floor are 80% complete
  • Elevated slab pours are underway and 65% complete

  • Exterior mock up of the brick, stone, glass and other exterior materials used in construction (referred to as CMU) is 90% complete

Metals

  • Steel erection is 95% complete

Thermal and Moisture Protection

  • Sprayed fireproofing is 20% complete
  • Roofing is 15% complete

Plumbing

  • Underslab plumbing is 100% complete

Electrical

  • Underground site electrical is 90% complete
  • Underslab electrical is 100% complete
  • Site light poles are energized and bases are 85% complete

Porter-Raises-the-Beam-44Major achievements that are expected to be completed in the next several months include:

  • April 1, 2011: the site is expected to have permanent power
  • June 30, 2011: the anticipated “Dry-In” date, which means the hospital roof and walls are up
  • July 30, 2011: the expected date that conditioned air will be available, meaning all air handlers being installed, making the new building ready for heating and air conditioning throughout
