Porter County Animal Shelter Announces Low Cost Spay/Neuter Programs Available To Porter County Residents

Save-a-Life-Spay-NeuterThe Porter County Animal Shelter today announced the availability of programs with the National Animal Welfare Association (NAWS) of Mokena, Illinois to provide a low cost spay/neuter program for dogs beginning on Tuesday, April 9th, and the continuing availability of low cost/spay neuter for cats at the Anderson Feline Population Reduction Center in Beverly Shores. These spay/neuter programs are available to all dog and cat owners, NOT just low income households.

NAWS will schedule a monthly dog transport from the Porter County Animal Shelter to their animal clinic in Mokena, Illinois once a month from April through October, with the first transport occurring on Tuesday, April 9th. Interested dog owners can make an appointment to have their pets picked up at the Porter County Animal Shelter in the mornings at 6:00 AM for the surgery, and the dogs will be returned to the Shelter for the owner to reclaim around 6:30 in the evening. Costs for the dog spay/neuter are $75, with a reduced cost of $65 for pit bull or pit bull mixes, along with a $10 transport fee. There are additional costs for dogs over 75 lbs. ($10), pregnant dogs or dogs in heat ($15), or dogs with Crypt Orchid ($25). Incidental costs may also include pain medications ($12) and E-Collars ($8). NAWS will also offer reduced fees for vaccines, micro chipping and heart worm tests. The Anderson Feline Population Reduction Clinic at 12 US Highway 12 in Beverly Shores offers low cost spay/neuter for cats on Saturdays. The cost for feline spay/neuter is $50 and includes exam, rabies tag, parasite prevention, flea treatment, pain medication and antibiotics.
