Porter County Auditor’s Office Gains a Second CPA on Staff

Tiffany Johnson, the Auditor’s Office Budget and Finance Director, has been awarded her license as a CPA, having successfully passed all sections of the CPA exam. The CPA exam is considered one of the most challenging professional credential examinations.

Johnson joined the Auditor’s Office in the spring of 2015 and holds a variety of responsibilities in budgeting, financial reporting, excise tax calculations, and the county’s TIF neutralization study. In addition to her CPA credential, she holds a masters’ in accountancy from Loyola University.

Porter County Auditor Vicki Urbanik, who is also a CPA, is an advocate for expanded staff professional development. She said having a second CPA on staff will be a tremendous benefit to Porter County.

“We are absolutely thrilled with Tiffany’s accomplishments,” Urbanik said. “Having not one, but two, CPAs among a full-time staff of 15 will significantly enhance our work, since CPAs are well-trained and well-versed in accounting guidelines, the audit environment, and internal controls.”

Johnson’s CPA credential will be even more significant as the Auditor’s Office transitions to a new format for financial reporting. New state legislation will require certain taxing units throughout Indiana to prepare financial statements following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, which represents a major change from the current reporting format.
