Remembering Jim Butz

On Friday, March 2, John and Mary Ann Butz joined us at the Career Center to commemorate the life of Jim Butz, who died in combat on 9/28/11. Jim was a Career Center student and graduated from Chesterton HS in 2009. He was a football player and wrestler at CHS and a Health Occupations student at the Career Center. He enlisted in the Army after high school and became an airborne medic. The ceremony held here was to commemorate the memorial plaque now posted in our foyer.

Sarah Jackett Receives Indiana Award for Excellence as Outstanding Student

Sarah Jackett, CHS senior, and TV/Media Productions student was recently recognized in Indianapolis by the Indiana School Superintendent, Dr. Tony Bennett as one of the top CTE students in Indiana. It was only appropriate that Sarah received this award one day after receiving a first place in the Indiana Student Broadcasters Association for a news category. Sarah is a talented student, whom Mr. Phelps feels has all the necessary skills to make a great future in television news or media productions. Sarah is well liked by everyone and has been a Career Center star for two years. Mr. Phelps, Mrs. Ellis, and numerous family members were able to join Sarah in Indianapolis for the receipt of her award. She was recognized at a luncheon and later in a formal presentation in the auditorium of the Indiana Government Center. We are all proud to know her and we look forward to hearing about her future life accomplishments.
