Governor Pence Visits the Porter County Career and Tech Center

Immediately after addressing the Indiana Education-Workforce Innovation Conference in Indianapolis, Governor Pence travelled to Valparaiso to visit the Porter County Career and Tech Center. Governor Pence campaigned on a goal to improve access to Career and Technical Education classes for every high school student in Indiana.

Governor Pence provided a short address to the students and guests. In response to a Media Studies student interview question: Can you tell us about the importance of Career Tech and Ed? The Governor responded as follows:

I really do believe that all honest work is honorable work and that our Schools ought to work for our kids, regardless of where they want to start in life. And while we want to encourage every Hoosier child to go to college, we also want our schools to work for young people to start their careers right out of high school. And maybe continue their education down the road at another time."

"And that’s what makes the Porter County Career Center so important because it’s really been setting the pace here in the state of Indiana for creating career pathways for young people just like you.”

Governor Pence was able to meet with many current students, teachers, three of our graduates (all working full time and attending college), and several of our employer partners. A short video (produced by Megan Leetz and ready for distribution within one hour) of his visit can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iH1dSgEgUyw
