Paul Bui, VHS 2013 Graduate, Electronics Technology Graduate New Employee for Fronius Corporation

Paul was recently presented an employment offer from the Fronius Corporation. Paul was a star student in Mr. Kenning’s Electronic and Computer Technology class last year. Fronius is an international company and world leader in welding technology, battery charging systems, and solar electronics. Fronius has an office in the Portage Ameriplex industrial park. Paul will receive 3 months of training in Austria and later have a company car, home office, and other benefits. It is a great opportunity for Paul to take what he has learned from the Alternative Energy project at the Career Center into the world of business and industry. Paul is very grateful for his start at the Career Center and only wishes he could have attended for two years. Mr. Kenning says, “Paul is very bright and conscientious; Fronius is getting a future star.”

It is a new school year and it is football season. School colors are worn proudly at the Career Center where students come together to take their Career and Technical electives with students from 10 different high schools. Though, some of our students will be battling each other on the gridiron, soccer field, or in different cheerleading squads, they come together as friends during the school week.

Kouts CTE Students Show Off Artisitic Talents over the Summer

Career Center students, Ethan Scates (CAD) and Maddie Royter (TV Productions), both are Kouts HS seniors, participated in the Youth Service Bureau Chalk the Walk event this summer. They helped raise money for YSB and they helped Horizon Bank support the event by performing as the Horizon Bank artists.

Students Learn Service to Others through Career Center Blood Drive

Health Occupations student helped the American Red Cross conduct our first successful blood drive of the year. Many students contributed by donating a pint of blood. We had a very successful day with 72 pints collected.

Elizabeth Rivich (VHS), Lauren Bobinski (Morgan Twp), and Bri Leuck (Morgan) are seen waiting to donate.

Health Occ and Health Careers students are pictured ready to monitor our Blood Drive.

Taylor Miley (Hebron) can be seen setting a smiling example of how easy it is to donate blood and save a life.

Substance Abuse

Substance abuse is a topic that has significantly infiltrated our community. It is found within our neighborhoods, schools, households…and even workplaces.

Drugs and alcohol can take a tremendous toll on a business. It’s estimated that 87% of drug and alcohol abusers work at a small business. The costs can be huge:

  • 50% of all Workers’ Compensation claims can be linked to drug and alcohol use.
  • 9 out of 10 alcoholics and 7 out of 10 drug addicts are employed.
  • Employees using drugs and alcohol are 10x’s more likely to miss work.
  • Over half of serious workplace accidents are drug or alcohol related.
  • A single employee abusing drugs or alcohol can cost your business $7000 annually.

All Porter County Schools are committed to helping our students avoid drugs and alcohol.
