Porter County Parks & Recreation is offering a unique opportunity to local residents in their upcoming program guide. They will be offering a program focused at training participants to walk the Dawn of the Dunes Half Marathon that takes place in Gary, IN on Sunday, October 21st.
The program will focus on preparing participants to build up to the 13.1 mile distance of the half marathon. Walkers and runners of all skill levels are welcome to join this walk training program built to help motivate them to achieve this great distance.
Training begins Thursday, August 7. Participants will meet on Thursdays August 7, 14 and 21 at 6 p.m. at Sunset Hill Farm County park. Starting August 24th, training will switch to Sunday mornings at 7am from August 24 through October 19 at a location to be determined.
The 12-week training program will include weekly emails, training tips, a guided workout program and more to prepare walkers for the race. The registration fee is $75 and includes both the training and race registration and t-shirt. This opportunity is open to men and women 18 years or older.
