The morning started out cool and cloudy but soon after the starter's pistol sounded the sky opened up, the sun was shining and temperatures began to rise.

“We couldn’t have asked for better weather,” said Steve Lunn, Porter Health CEO. “We had around 160 people pre-register, and many more register here, so our numbers are up from last year which is always nice.”

“We choose a different charity to donate the proceeds to every year,” continued Lunn. “This year the money we make here will go to the VNA Hospice Center.”

The VNA Hospice Center provides compassionate and innovative home and hospice care in an innovative and personalized manner to those in need. With the focus on patient and family care and compassion, patients and family members, together, may live their days as fully as possible.

The winner of this years Health Hustle was Kevin Pascoe, a high schooler from Hanover Central, with a time of 18:59. This was Pascoe’s first time running Porter Health’s Annual 5K.

“They weren’t kidding!” Pascoe said. “That course was tough.”

Many of the racers shared Pascoe’s sentiments that Sunset Hill Farm offers a challenge. The course was more of a Cross Country style setup with a lot of up and down terrain. The struggle and the effort needed to complete the course was seen on the faces of those crossing the finish line.

“I really want to thank all the volunteers that came out to help today,” added Lunn. “The work they do here along with our sponsors and the people here from Porter Health make this a success every year and without them this wouldn’t be possible.”

Sponsors of this year's Healthy Hustle 5K Run/Walk include: Extra Mile Fitness Company, Anton Insurance Agency, Rittenhouse Senior Living of Valparaiso, and Luke Oil
