Porter Health System and Wanatah Primary Care Donate AED Defibrillator Units to Westville School System

Porter-donation-to-westville-schoolsOn Wednesday, June 1, Porter CEO Jonathan Nalli, and Geraldine Feria, MD, of Wanatah Primary Care presented two AED (automated external defibrillator) units to the Westville School System. Westville Superintendent Jim Thorne and Athletic Director Ken Shilt accepted the units in a presentation held in the high school’s gymnasium.

In presenting the units, Nalli and Dr. Feria stated that their hope was that the school would never have to use the AEDs, and added that Porter’s goal is to keep all of the system’s children, staff and visitors “heart safe."

Superintendent Thorne commented, “On behalf of the students, staff, and community of the Westville Schools, I would like to thank Porter Health and Dr. Geraldine Feria from Wanatah Primary Care for the generous donation of two AEDs. There have been too many recent stories of young student athletes with undiagnosed heart problems dying on the courts and fields. Our hope is that we never have to use an AED but feel comfort in knowing that if needed, we are prepared, not only for our athletes, but our staff and community as well. Again, without the generous donation from Porter Health and Dr. Feria, we probably would not have been able to afford this addition."
