Porter Health System Receives National Organ Donation Award

April is Donate Life Month and a perfect time for Porter Health System to celebrate its recent Silver Award for its organ donation performance from the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). This notable award is based on national hospital performance data from Oct. 1, 2008 to March 31, 2010.

This award denotes Porter as a Health and Human Service’s 2010 Medal of Honor hospital. Porter is only one of four hospitals recognized in the state of Indiana by HRSA , and the only hospital located in Northwest Indiana.

According to Nurse Educator, Bonnie Turman, RN, the need for organ donation has never been greater. “More people than ever are awaiting a life-saving organ. Porter follows a collaborative model to institute best practices for donation and transplantation, so we can help more people and families in need.
