Porter Health System Receives Recognition Once Again

As Porter Health System inched ever closer to fully transitioning to their new location at US 6 and Highway 49, they took another full stride in becoming the dominant healthcare provider in Northwest Indiana. The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association awarded Porter Health System with the Participating Hospital Award for aligning themselves with the appropriate stroke guidelines.

"Lynette [Rayman] and Dr. [Mahmood] Alnahass represent a core team of individuals that dedicated close to 18, 19 months of time of their lives to what they feel is the appropriate evidence-based practice and process in medicine for us to be able to offer the highest quality of care when we see patients who we feel are having stroke symptoms," said Jonathan Nalli, CEO of Porter Health System.

Nalli expressed deep appreciation for the award as did the recipients, Lynette Rayman, RN, Cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialist and Mahmood Alnahass, Ph.D., Neurologist. In order to receive the reward, a process improvement team needed to be set in place in which Rayman and Alnahass led as well as having 30 baseline charts in place on patient management. The award also enables Porter the opportunity to receive bronze, silver, and gold awards in the near future in which Porter could potentially receive recognition in the U.S. News and World Report.
"I expect to be back very soon," commented Gregory Poe, Quality Improvement Initiatives Director for the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, in reference to Porter being in line to receive the future bronze, silver, or gold awards.

Only 8 out of over 1800 hospitals have received this reward to date.
